‘Ceiling Lamp’ and ‘Power Plug’
Here are my first offerings. Whilst the world is being obliterated by war, in Iraq and now ofcourse in Lebanon, when we look upon inanimated objects, they become our saviour.
My images are about how we reflect upon (and become numbed by) world and/or personal issues, whilst staring at or working with dull, lifeless objects. They’re also about our society’s obsession with commodities; that lifeless objects can give us emotional satisfaction, and that ‘suburban’ forms and lifestyles may numb us against the horrors of the 21st Century. By distorting my pictures using Photoshop software, I hoped to give these inanimate objects some life and emotion, transforming these everyday objects into having new meanings. I guess Andy Warhol’s Pop Art style is a major influence of this series of work. His Campbells Soup screenprints are famous for that ‘quirky’ detached observation of American consumerism. We idolize those plastic bits, whilst the environment, countries, the human race, etc. suffers.
Perhaps this could be the next new art movement: “Inanimatedism”. If you have images of a similar ilk, then please feel free to post them.
